The Best Artist/Band of 2009

Category: Jam Session

Post 1 by Miss Gorgeous (I'm going for the prolific poster awards!) on Thursday, 03-Dec-2009 22:11:23

Since the year is ending might as well post this. In your opinion, who is the best song artist or band of 2009? You can list more than one person or band.

In my opinion Muse's "the Resistance" is the best album of 2009, best song I'd give to the Postmarks, song called "No One said This Would Be Easy" from "Memoirs of the End of the World".
Also "All the Right Moves" by "One Republic" refuses to leave my head once I hear it, so I'd have to give it a close second.

Hmm what about Kid Rock's 1989? Don't much care for Kid Rock but that song kinda brought some teenage memories.
Then there's Rehab's Brandy - did that come out in 2009 or was that 2008?
There's also Check My Brain, I think it's called, the new one from Alison Chains.

Was wrong about Rehab's tune, it's Bartender.

I'm surprised at you liking all the girly bands. Miley / Hanna Montana? You're a fag lol ... I suffered through my daughter watching Hanna Montana when she was younger ... ah well suffering makes you stronger.

Post 11 by laced-unlaced (Account disabled) on Sunday, 03-Jan-2010 12:12:48

there's nothing wrong with liking meley cyrus.

honestly!

and all the girl bands?. tinchy stryder?, n-dubz?. sorry, you're strange.

Well you're right on a lot of those, just got hasty on the trigger when I say Meley Cyrus ... proof not just sighted people jump to conclusions ...

Kings of Leon, people. Kings of Leon.

Most of these bands aren't exactly "mainstream", but they should be. This is what I listened to and liked in 2009.
Note: The links open in a new window; format is artist - album. I've got youtube links for tracks off each album.

Dirty Projectors - Bitte Orca
Antoine Dufour and Tommy Gauthier - Still Strings
Japandroids - Post-Nothing
Them Crooked Vultures - Them Crooked Vultures
Fuck Buttons - Tarot Sport [Only listen if you have a -lot- of free time]

So yeah. Just a bit of a different opinion on a board where everyone seems to like the same tracks.

Post 16 by wildebrew (We promised the world we'd tame it, what were we hoping for?) on Saturday, 09-Jan-2010 11:04:29

the Bravery's new album is good, a slow burner, but it grows on ya.
Kings of Leon, decent album too.
Haven't gotten into the Vultures, very Holmes/Grohl sounding, I think it is more fun for them to jam than necessarily for us to listen, but still definitely a big ass rocker.
I'm kind of amused by "Major Lazer", sorta future hip hop/raggae mix from jamaica, don't have the YouTube link but e.g. "Hold the Line" is a pretty entertaining track.
Muse's the Resistance is a brilliant album, my fav of 2009 I think, though I usually have a lot of different genre favorites.

I liked Jay-sean alot in 2009.
Taylor swift, Carrie Underwood, and rihanna I'd say were also pretty good as well.

Hmmmm. Well, let's see: Did Shinedown's The Sound of Madness come out in '08 or '09? No matter, it was good. and for an absolute change of music, Antony and the Johnsons' The Crying Light. And for another change, Sirens of the Sea by OceanLab but again that might have been '08...

Post 22 by SilverLightning (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Saturday, 10-Apr-2010 10:10:35

Lets see. bowling for soup had a great album in 09, so did breaking benjamin, AFI, I'm sure their are others, but 2009 wasn't huge for me. 08 wasn't bad, and 2010 is turning out great.
